This Pixl Independence Computer Science Student Booklet was created to give the program some independent review based on my experience with teaching and using Pixl. It is meant to be an aid for students to decide if they want to learn programming with Pixl, as well as other independent software packages. I have used many independent software packages, and there is one main reason for this. Independent software is easier to change when needed or wanted. For instance, in Pixl there are many add-ons that I would not have used if I had used Microsoft. But for this reason alone I still use Microsoft Office every day in my personal and business endeavors.

The main question on many peoples minds these days is “Do My Programming assignments need to be done in MS Office?” The answer is a qualified “No”. In fact, they need to be done in your computer, as well as in your word processing program, such as Quicken.

You can use whichever type of independent programs you like. You just have to know which type of programs you will be using. As for me, I use word processing, graphics software, presentations and a small amount of music editing in my independent programs. I find that using word processing and presentation software are the most independent programs.

There is no reason to have to use Microsoft products. You don’t have to use any of their products, except for Microsoft Word, which I believe is the best product ever designed. If you use a word processor like Word, you are using Microsoft products. When it comes to do my programming assignment, then I choose to do it in my computer. I have never heard of anyone ever being happy using anything other than Microsoft products.

But what about your presentations? If you use PowerPoint or Open PowerPoint, then you can’t use anything else. Again, if you are an independent student, then you must use all independent programs. They have been proven to work, and they work great.

The only problem is that they get outdated real quick. Sometimes in six months or less, you will be trying to use some programs that are six years old. And then what happens is that some students will want to switch to something more up to date. So that’s what happens. They update one of the independent programs.

So here is the thing that you have to understand about using the Pixl Independence Computer Science Student Booklet. You are allowed to use the programs alone. You are not able to share them with anybody else. You are not able to do any type of collaboration or help each other with the projects. Independent programs for computer science courses just simply do not work in this manner.

But what if you want to share your projects with someone? Then you would need some type of collaboration software for a class assignment or project. So do not waste any more time working on independent programs.
